Adds Chicago research and development facility, New Jersey manufacturing site
WASHINGTON — The Association for Accessible Medicines today commented on the announcement by Amneal Pharmaceuticals, Inc. of the completion of their acquisition of U.S. based Kashiv BioSciences, which creates a fully end-to-end biosimilars capacity, from research, development, manufacturing, and commercialization.
Amneal’s investment to expand domestic development and manufacturing of biosimilars in the U.S. directly aligns with the President’s efforts to strengthen our domestic supply chain for critical medicines, and provides lower-cost medicines to Americans,” said John Murphy III, President and CEO of the Association for Accessible Medicines. “AAM has been shining a light on the ‘biosimilar void’ or the lack of current development for biologic medicines coming off patent in the next ten years. This will directly help create competition and lower costs for patients and the overall healthcare ecosystem.”
With this acquisition, Amneal will have two facilities with over 150,000 square feet in New Jersey as well as a 100,000 square foot R&D and manufacturing facility in Chicago.
Amneal joins fellow AAM members in their commitment to domestic manufacturing and U.S. investment. Last year, Hikma announced the groundbreaking of a new facility in Ohio and expansion of facilities in Ohio and New Jersey. Amphastar announced an expansion of its California facilities that will quadruple their production within five years. Lupin announced investments of $250 million to build a new manufacturing facility in Florida.
